Born in Germany to French and German parents, Olivier moved to London as a teenager and has lived there ever since. He gained his BA Hons in Photomedia, and as part of his studies he spent six months abroad in Finland. Here he met the two inspirational photographers, Arno Rafael Minkkinen and Nick Wapplington, who helped to shape his visual language, and encouraged him to turn photography into his profession. Olivier went on to assist many leading photographers in the UK and around the world before venturing out to become a photographer himself. Many interesting commissions and collaborations have followed within the editorial, travel and advertising industry. From a young age he has travelled extensively and his work and projects have taken him to many parts of the world. From photographing young boxers in Havana to a Paralympic cycling champion in his favourite café in Clerkenwell – he adapts naturally to different environments. Olivier is always looking for the quirky and the unexpected. He immerses himself in the everyday, trying to capture the connection between people and their surroundings – the way each generation appropriates their histories and cultures. The common theme running through Olivier’s work is his empathy for people and places, always looking for a way to show the similarities rather than the differences between his subjects. |
