BMW & MIT collaboration – Pushing material boundaries
The BMW Design Department in collaboration with MIT’s (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Self-Assembly Laboratory have successfully developed printed inflatable material technologies that self-transform, adapt and morph from one state to another. This visionary commission is showcased at the V&A museum in London, and for the first time on display during „The Future Starts Here“, a highly anticipated exhibition that draws new pictures of an advancing future.
We met Martina Starke, Head of Brand Vision & Brand Design at the BMW Group and Skylar Tibbits, Founder/Co-Director of the Self-Assembly Lab MIT, to produce a short video and photo story for the unveiling of their first collaboration at the Cassina showrooms in Knightsbridge. A fascinating concept which will shape and change things to come in more than one industry sector for sure.
