11 Freunde – Adrian Tempany

The Hillsborough disaster of 1989 was an important yet sad moment for any football fan in England, but also for most other European countries. Watching events unfold like that on TV at the time, is what made the safety aspect for the fans and stewards change forever. We were asked by the German football magazine 11 Freunde, to photograph the author of the book ‘And the Sun Shines Now’, Adrian Tempany at the Guardian offices in Kings Cross, London. As a lifelong Liverpool supporter and actual survivor of this shocking event, he tells his own chilling story of this particular day. One can only hope that it won’t happen again and that a great deal was learned from it! Though having watched the first round games and the behaviour of some of the fans during this years European Championships in France on TV, doubts come to mind…
